Interface administrators are highly trusted users who have been granted the technical ability to edit the interface of Box Critters Wiki. This includes the ability to edit all pages in the MediaWiki namespace, as well as the CSS, JS and JSON of the whole site and individual users.
Whilst administrators can edit interface messages stored in the MediaWiki namespace, only interface administrators[1] have the ability to edit CSS, JS and JSON pages. This is for security reasons: the site-wide CSS and JS are executed in every user's browser, so code could be used for malicious purposes, or to entirely disrupt editing of the site. Therefore, interface administrators must be highly trusted among the community and should be able to give evidence of good understanding of CSS, JavaScript and the MediaWiki interface. To prevent unapproved users from obtaining interface permissions, the interface administrator user group can only be added to an account by a system administrator.
