The Hamster is a playable critter. It is currently the only critter that has been released, aside from the Penguin critter 
which has been available during the Club Penguin Celebration events.
History
"Hamsters are cool, and I think they should be the pirate hamsters. Sailing the seas with their furry little faces, dehydrated food pellets and seeking adventure." ― RocketSnail during Experiment #1 on why he created Hamster critters[1]
The Hamster was first shown in a tweet on January 5, 2019.[2] New artwork was shown on January 19, 2020.[3] Full artwork was shared a few days later[4]
When the game launched on February 8, 2019, the original Hamster sprite was used. It was updated to the new design on March 17, 2019.
The Hamster is the first critter to be publicly revealed, as well as the first critter playable.
