Coins are the main currency of Box Critters. RocketSnail stated on Twitter that he would be likely to add these with the first minigame[2], and added them to the game in client version 95-coins on August 1, 2019, in order to get ready for adding the first minigame to Box Critters.[3]

Currently, 20 coins can get added to your account every day when you login.

Upon the release of client version 95-coins, each player was given 100 coins to start with. The following day, alongside the client version 96-coins update, players were credited an additional 100 coins by mistake.[4] Therefore, players registered before August 2, 2019 at around 10:00AM PT will start with 200 coins. Players registered after this time will start with 100 coins.

RocketSnail shared an image of a half-bitten coin on Twitter and said that he might nickname the coins "bite-coins".[1] Client version 97-big was later released to update the coin bar to use this image.

The first minigame, Critterball, allows players to collect coins. They cannot yet be added to the player's account because the game does not yet link to the main accounts used for Box Critters.
